The world has kissed my soul with its pain, asking for its return in songs.

2

I strove with none,

for none was worth my strife,

Nature I loved,

and next to Nature, Art;

I warmed both hands before the fire of life,

It sinks,

and I am ready to depart.

和谁争我都不屑;

其次就是艺术;

我双手烤着,生命之火取暖;

3

Though the mountains are naturally idyllic, it's the snow that makes their heads hoary. Though the lake is unaffectedly still, it's the wind that stirs the wrinkle.

4

Dear, no one else outside, All outward objects are the results of the projects within you come out.

5

There is no frigate like a book

To take us lands away,

Nor any coursers like a page

Of prancing poetry.

This traverse may the poorest take

Without oppress of toll;

How frugal is the chariot

That bears a human soul!

I have spent many an hour, when I was younger, floating over its surface as the zephyr willed, having paddled my boat to the middle, and lying on my back across the seats, in a summer forenoon, dreaming awake, until I was aroused by the boat touching the sand, and I arose to see what shore my fates had impelled me to.

7

Sorrow is hushed into peace in my heart like the evening among the silent trees.

8

Every man dies, Not every man really lives.

9

The Thames nocturne of blue and gold

Changed to a Harmony in grey:

A barge with ochre-coloured hay

Dropt from the wharf: and chill and cold.

10

A man can be himself only so long as he is alone; and if he does not love solitude, he will not love freedom; for it is only when he is alone that he is really free.

11

All's well that ends well.

12

If our fate is a lonely river, to be strong, firm and stick to it are redemption.

13

We laughed and kept saying "see u soon", but inside we both knew we'd never see each other again.

14

I seem to have been only like a boy playing on the seashore. I have amused myself by now and then finding a smooth pebble or a pretty shell, but the great ocean of truth still lies before me unknown and unexplored.

15

Some of us get dipped in flat, some in satin, some in gloss... But every once in a while you find someone who's iridescent, and when you do, nothing will ever compare.

16

Two roads diverged in a wood, and I — I took the one less traveled by, And that has made all the difference.

17

The significant inion found on an old key---“If I rest, I rust”.

18

Be for the being, not for anything else.

19

Histories make men wise; poets witty; the mathematics subtile; natural philosophy deep; moral grave; logic and rhetoric able to contend. Abeunt studia in mores (Studies pass into the character).

20

When to the sessions of sweet silent thought

I summon up remembrance of things past,

I sign the lack of many a thing I sought,

And with old woes new wail my dear time's waste...

21

It was the best of times, it was the worst of times, it was the age of wisdom, it was the age of foolishness, it was the epoch of belief, it was the epoch of incredulity, it was the season of Light, it was the season of Darkness, it was the spring of hope, it was the winter of despair, we had everything before us, we had nothing before us, we were all going direct to Heaven, we were all going direct the other way.

22

This life is the crossing of a sea, where we meet in the same narrow ship. In death we reach the shore and go to our different worlds.

23

No story sits by itself. Sometimes stories meet at corners and sometimes they cover one another completely, like stones beneath a river … …That each affects the other and the other affects the next, and the world is full of stories, but the stories are all one.

24

Anyone who cannot come to terms with his life while he is alive needs one hand to ward off a little his despair over his fate... but with his other hand he can note down what he sees among the ruins.

25

He gave her a sidelong glance with his pale, blue eyes, but didn't reply. After many years of married life he had learned that it was more conducive to peace to leave his wife the last word.

If you're in pitch blackness, all you can do is sit tight until your eyes get used to the dark.

27

“But man is not made for defeat,” he said, “A man can be destroyed but not defeated.”

28

The benefit of reading varies directly with one’s experience in life. It is like looking at the moon. A young reader may be compared to one seeing the moon through a single crack, a middle-aged reader seems to see it from an enclosed courtyard, and an old man seems to see it from an open terrace, with a complete view of the entire field.

29

I would rather share one lifetime with you, than face all the ages of this world alone.

30

Looking forward to things is half the pleasure of them. You may not get the things themselves, but nothing can prevent you from having the fun of looking forward to them. “Blessed are they who expect nothing for they shall not be disappointed.” But I think it would be worse to expect nothing than to be disappointed.
